Today i thought i'd share with you my review on a deep conditioner i have been using lately. It's the Beautiful Textures Rapid Repair Deep Conditioner. Beautiful Textures is a relatively new company to the UK, and I've got to say I've heard/ read mixed reviews, but i like to form my own opinion when it comes to products. I purchased this deep conditioner with my own money from Paks for £3.99.
So what is it?
It's a moisturising deep conditioner (425g/ 15 oz US) for mixed textures; curly, wavy, kinky- coily frizzy. It is enriched with Aloe Vera, Coconut, Olive, Soy, Argan Oil, Shea and Mango Butter.
Aqua, Glycine Soja Oil/ Soybean Oil, Hyrdrogenated Vegetable Oil, Argania Spinosa Nut Oil/ Argan Oil, Cocos Nucifera Oil/ Coconut Oil, Olea Europaea Fruit Oil/ Olive Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii Fruit/ Shea Butter, Mangifera Indica Seed Butter/ Mango Butter, Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract/ Rosemary Extract, Dimethicone, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract/ Aloe Vera, Phenyl Trimethicone, Panax Ginseng Root Extract/ Ginseng Extract, Polyquatemium 37, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/ Dicaprate, Steareth 2, Steareth 20, Lanolin, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Polysorbate 20, DMDM Hydantoin, CI 15985/ Yellow 6, Parfum/ Fragrance, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Coumarin, d-Limonene, Hexyl Cinnamal, Lyral, Methyl Ionone Gamma.
What it promises to do:
Helps to "Restore hair's natural moisture balance"
"Control damage from transitioning, heat and colour treated hair"
"Restore elasticity to prevent breakage"
Directions vs. How I used it:
"Saturate hair from roots to ends. Finger comb or use a wide tooth comb to ensure complete coverage. For thicker tresses use a detangling brush to ensure complete coverage. For deeper penetration cover hair with plastic cap and sit under dryer for 15 minutes. Rinse completely and style as desired. For tresses that are extremely damaged, over processed, or breaking hair, follow the steps above for 25 minutes. Can also be used as a leave- in conditioner".
|By the time i finished it was the evening, hence the image colour change :)|
I modified the directions slightly to suit me. I sectioned my hair into 4 and applied the product to each section from roots to ends. I finger combed my hair to ensure complete coverage, as guided by the instructions. When i was done, i covered my hair with two plastic caps and then put on my turban. I don't own a fancy hooded dryer and so i find that using the turban helps to properly trap my body heat and activate the conditioner in almost the same way the indirect heat from a dryer would. The directions say to leave this on for 15 minutes, which i did the very first time i used this, but since then i feel that i have gotten better results leaving it on for longer periods of time. When the time was up i simply rinsed it out.
So what's my verdict?
From reading many reviews it was clear that most people preferred this DC on dry hair before shampoo-ing rather than after shampoo-ing. This view didn't really affect me as i prefer DC'ing beforehand anyway, but i thought to try both ways anyhow. I have to agree and say i got better results when DC'ing before shampoo-ing. I like the fact that this product works well with my existing shampoo. I've mentioned many- a- time how much i'm in love with my shampoo and so it was important that my DC could easily slip into my regimen, 'cos ain't my shampoo going anywhere!
The deep conditioner itself is very creamy. It reminds me almost of yoghurt, just a little thicker. It has a sweet, fruity smell as a yoghurt would too. The mango scent sticks out to me the most. I'm normally not a fan of fruity smells (strawberries being the worst for me) but i was pleasantly surprised by this DC's scent. It's not too strong/ overpowering. I really like the consistency of this DC but I have to say that i feel that my new growth benefits from it more. I found that my curl pattern becomes more apparent when using this product and the curls really pop, which i like. It rinses out with ease, leaving my hair feeling detangled and my new growth soft and curly, which is exactly what i need whilst transitioning.
Beautiful Textures claim that this product helps to restore hairs natural moisture balance and i believe that it did help me when i suffered from really dry hair and protein- moisture imbalance which i mentioned in my previous post. The product mixed with heat was my saviour during that period.
In conclusion, my experience with this DC has been positive and I would definitely repurchase again. I was also would recommend this to anyone looking for a new DC.
I hope this review helped!
